The Crashing World

You cannot protect yourself from sadness without protecting yourself from happiness. ~Jonathan Safran Foer

the_world_crashes_down_by_friskeydomingo-d38ieg6Sometimes your world comes crashing down and you were completely unawares it was in free fall hurtling out of control.

Sometimes everything you believed in turns out to have been an illusion, a lie you told yourself, a world created in your mind with no reflection of reality.

Sometimes the time you thought you invested in others didn’t really happen, didn’t move past your own make believe world

Sometimes all the good deeds you imagined you did, the hand holding, the tears dripping off your shoulder when a heart was broken were just an illusory world in which you surrounded yourself.

Sometimes all the selfless acts of love you believes you bestowed upon others were not spoken in a language the other could understand. The acts fall at your feet broken, shattered remnants of dreams that sustained you through life’s difficult times.

Sometimes all those little moments you measured as successes were, in reality, tiny errors growing into one a great big failure and you can’t help but wonder if you are worth loving.
