Sunset Years

Frozen Memories

I was moseying around the Zugersee in Zug Switzerland on a gorgeous November day in 2011 when this couple caught my eye. They were walking arm in arm along the water’s edge before sitting on this bench together where he draped his arm across her shoulder – a scene I am sure they played again and again over the long years of their lives together. I imagined they were enjoying the setting sun, the lengthening shadows, the cool breeze off the sea, the birds creating rings on the water surface, the old city in backdrop. I imagined they were deeply in love, had been for decades and were enjoying their sunset years. I found myself wondering what ripples their lives created as they swam the sea of life.
