Smoky Sunrise

Frozen Memories

The Fall of 2011 marked my first long trip with Irene. Since we were going to be in each other’s company pretty much 24/7 for a week, it could easily have been a make or break scenario. Perhaps the biggest challenge was the fact that she was a night owl where I was a morning person AND I was also a sunrise chaser. I dragged her out of bed every morning to ensure we were in the Smoky Mountain National Park before the masses. More than once the look in her eyes led me to believe she would push me over a cliff when no one was looking. Our 2nd to the last morning there found us shivering while watching the sunrise at the Appalachian Trailhead which is where this picture was taken.
