The Soldier – India Independence Day #01

Frozen Memories

During the course of 2013, I was in attendance for two independence day celebrations. The first in the US the other in India. My apartment complex, called a society in India, hosted a flag raising celebration. As is the norm in my society, I was the only non-Indian in attendance despite numerous expats living in my society. For some reason during cultural events, I’m the only expat to show up. The gentleman in the foreground of this picture was wearing a traditional Indian military headdress. Just as in the US, the ceremony sent chills up and down my spine.
