For a small fee, one can access the roof of Il Duomo via a narrow, winding stairwell. The fee and the vertical trek are worth it when one get’s to walk the marble roof. Atop the roof, one can see some of the seemingly infinite supply of sculptures along with many pinnacles and spires. The engineering of this masterwork astounds. How did they manage to create such an amazing roof without the aid of modern machinery? How did they create a structure that would support this incredibly heavy roof?
