The Concubine Trail

Frozen Memories

Concubine Trail Concubine Trail

Istanbul is home to the magnificent Topkapi Palace. Thanks to Irene reading up on the palace, we arrived early to beat some of the massive crowds that visit daily. Our first stop was the harem quarters, one of the more popular areas of the palace. This beautiful stone walkway, which runs the full length of the harem within site of the wives and concubines, is the Sultan’s walkway. It’s the path he walked on presumably as he selected one of his many women to entertain him for the evening. From what I could tell, the stone color is natural, not painted.
