Juree can frequently be seeing walking the streets near my favorite coffee shop. He walks across busy streets without looking and seems to never have a close call with the motorcycles and cars whizzing by. Sometimes, while walking he shouts random things in a local language. We see each other often and have progressed from acknowledging each other with a wave of the hand to having sit down conversations. He speaks fairly good English but the words are hard to understand when spoken through a mouth missing many teeth.

He tells me his father is Nigerian and his mother Portuguese and that he used to be rich. He is from Punjab and wants to travel out of the country but, so far, he has only been to Yangon Myanmar which, he says, is a beautiful country. I have seen him reading English language newspapers on a regular basis. He talks of corruption…
