Cave Prayer

Frozen Memories

Cave Prayer Cave Prayer

I had to take at least one picture of myself praying in a cave church. It seem only appropriate being that I am a Christian and these are my ancestors in Christ. We are connected in faith, in spirit, in the blood of the one crucified to free us.

The walls around this cutout are heavily grooved as if someone took a wide tined rake and scraped it over the walls leaving scars for the centuries. Were the scrapes ornamental? Why did the carvers not polish the walls to a sheen? What (or who) stood in this niche during the time of the cave saints? The past gives birth to many more questions than answers.
