Monochrome Monday: Lady On A Boat

Frozen Memories

Lady On Boat Lady On Boat

I saw this woman on the boat while we were heading back to the Thai mainland from Koh Samed. By the standards of Western media, she would not be considered beautiful. Her face has some wrinkles, her hair had significant elements of graying. Both are signs of aging and, if we would believe the spew of the advertising agencies, one must have baby smooth skin and not a touch of gray in the hair to be beautiful along with a waif thin body bordering on sickly.

This woman had an elegance derived from confidence. She seemed peaceful. Content. I imagine she has also developed quite a bit of wisdom over the years. These inner qualities make a person beautiful and they will last far longer than the exterior beauty of youth.
