Standing Buddha at Gal Vihara

Frozen Memories

Standing Buddha Standing Buddha

The tallest of the Buddha statues is the 22 foot tall Buddha standing. I love the detail in his clothing along with his face. It’s a face depicting sadness. I don’t recall previously seeing a sorrowful Buddha icon and didn’t notice the nature of the expression until I had time to review my pictures in detail. I was so overwhelmed by the aura of Gal Vihara that I missed many details in these beautiful carvings. That and the many people visiting the holy place did not allow me the time I needed to stand close to the statues and drink in their subtleties.
