Steps, Steps, Steps

Frozen Memories

Steps Steps

One thing I did not expect after climbing the 1202 steps to the top of Lion’s rock was to encounter more steps. The remains of the ancient palace atop Lion’s Rock in Sigiriya had lots and lots of steps. Some were so close I was left wondering why? Was it not possible to walk a few meters (yards) to walk down another set of steps.

Of course, I am viewing this place as ruins and not as the wonderful palace that graced this mountaintop from about 477 AD (Anno Domini – Year of the Lord) until it was abandoned in the 14th Century. For all I know, the now collapsed structure may have needed all these steps because walls separated the various sections.

Oh, it would be marvelous to go back in time and see these places in all their glory!
