Monochrome Monday: Contemplation

Frozen Memories

Contemplation Contemplation

Cappadocia Turkey is a must visit place for both scenic beauty and deeply rooted history. As amazing as the above ground is with all it’s other worldly rock formations, I prefer the in ground and underground. Many of the rock formations are hollowed out to create living quarters, some are quite elaborate, multi-floor structures. These centuries old dwellings were created without the aid of power tools. In this picture, the hash marks from the excavations are highly visible in the walls.

I wonder how many thousands of people sat in this alcove. Looking at its overall design, I wonder if it may have something to do with a fertility ritual.
