I turned a corner, looked down a long walkway bordered by tree to see this 80 foot Buddha statue perched on a tall pedestal. It’s easily the largest sitting Buddha I have encountered and second only in size to the 141 foot reclining Buddha at Wat Pho in Thailand. The sitting Buddha looks serene as he sits in meditation pose on a lotus. It is flanked by 10 standing sculptures of Buddha’s disciples in various poses. The statue is said to be partially hollow and to contain around 20,000 bronze Buddha sculptures.
