I believe in the Kingdom come
Then all the colors will bleed into one
Bleed into one
~U2, I Still Haven’t Found
Many look into the future, the deep future, the after death future and take solace that Heaven will be an existence where all live as one brother/sisterhood. A time when the line diving us and them will blur until there is only we. No separation along country lines, along ideological lines, along political lines. No separation along color lines, along any of the insignificant differences by which we choose division over unity. And it is a choice. My choice. Your choice. Our choice.
What seems to be missing from this fantasy is we have the capability in the here and now, on this earth, to incarnate Heaven. It is within our power, the power of each person, if we choose to utilize our personal power for good rather than evil, for peace filled thinking over violence-laden thinking to radiate heaven from our hearts by choosing to love everyone we encounter, every person we think about.
I grew up in a racially charged society. Part of my baggage when I’m not being mindful it to classify people, to squeeze people in stereotyped compartments in my brain. It’s a baggage that haunted me since the time I started traveling and seeing the world is much, much bigger than the society that helped shape my thinking.
I was at a loss until I heard a preacher recommend, every time a negative thought about a person enters my head to counter it with the phrase, “Thank God for diversity”.
The simple phrase helped my change my core thinking. I grew to embrace diversity, be an advocate for diversity at work, in neighborhoods, in society. It also helped me grow love in my heart by leaps and bounds allowing me to radiate heaven to those around me whether they believe in Heaven or not.
