When Evil Ascends the Throne

I think if you’re impregnated with good literature, with good culture, you’re much more difficult to manipulate, you’re much more aware of the dangers that powers represent. ~Mario Vargas Llosa

We the people tend to elect the least common denominator to public office because we are a nation choosing to watch TV rather than crack a book, any book, let alone quality literature. The latest result a buffoon who would rather watch sycophant news while eating chicken nuggets over reading anything.

A full 1/3 of High School graduates never read a book after High School. 80% of families did not buy or read a book in the past year.

Books expose readers to an almost infinite possible universes preparing the mind to ferret out duplicity in the subtly beautiful, to smell evil doused with rose water, to see the self-serving tendencies in the beguiling person of power and influence.

Books awaken the soul and prepare it for well thought through decisions. This is the reason books are the first item to be ridiculed and banned with evil ascends the throne.
