We Are the Bastards We Reviled

He who knows nothing can be deceived by anyone. ~Eduardo Galeano

I am embarrassed for my generation, for the choices made and continue to make in the light of the era during which we suckled our mama’s titties. Our youth experienced some of the most tumultuous societal upheavals in modern times. We have hard evidence our government chose to send vulnerable youth to death in Vietnam to save their own face. We rode the wave of 1968, the year of global, social upheaval into an enlightened future.

Yet, here we are supporting an orange buffoon president whose primary skills is lying to the least common denominator to support racist, isolationist policies making him richer and richer. Compared to dRump, despicable Nixon appears amateurish.

My generation opted out of military service yet now support wars to defend our honor knowing we and ours are safe from the enslaving draft. And we gladly wear the mask of Scrooge keeping all for ourselves and to hell with those struggling to find daily bread. We have become the bastards we reviled.
