True terror is to wake up one morning and discover your high school class is running the country. ~Kurt Vonnegut
My thick skin breaks the arrows of embarrassment as if they were threads of ice. In other words, I am not easily embarrassed. But…but I am intensely embarrassed that my generation has allowed our country to plummet off the cliff into a dark abyss with no end in sight.
We were the generation with hard evidence the government was as corrupt as cancer consuming the soul of a swaddling child. We were the love generation espousing the virtues of flower power in the face of bullet power. We had the numbers to usher in lasting change…if…we held onto our principles and did not sell out the future.
But we became the evil, support the evil who shits on everyone with glee. Free love was narrowed to love of mine at the expense of anyone ‘not us’, reduced to love of money and comfort while the starving children weep. We sold our souls becoming the monsters we protested, the monsters we knew in our youth were evil personified.
My hope now lies with the Millennials. If they are not the answer, I will die without hope for society, country, world, my children’s children’s children.
