The year was 2081, and everyone was finally equal. ~Kurt Vonnegut
Finally equal in 2081? I don’t think so. Removing the arbitrary grades people assign to everyone rendering all equal? It did not happen in Vonnegut’s lifetime. I don’t see it happening in my lifetime. I don’t see it happening in anyone’s lifetime. There may be a few enlightened but, overall, we are a judgemental lot looking for any excuse to set ourselves atop the totem pole or kick another to the bottom.
No human is inherently more valuable or less valuable than another. It is human arrogance that arbitrarily assigns rules for betterness. The rich are better than the poor? The old rich classier than the nouveau riche? The old Harvard educated rich superior to the old MIT educated rich? Divide, subdivide until everyone is force ranked from 1 to xxx billion ensuring no two people can be viewed equal.
Pelé and Maradona listed as the two greatest players of all time yet neither could defend to save their lives let alone hurl the bodies through space to defend the 8×24. But they are chosen the top two because humans arbitrarily rank goal scoring as greater than goal defending.
Humanity is so obsessed with status and categories we look to professional liars to tell us which car is better than all the others. It’s the Engineer who has that knowledge, not the famous actor.
As long as two humans remain breathing, there will never be equality on Earth. We are too shallow to appreciate each person’s unique makeup or honor the gift each unique soul is to humanity.
