The fact that we are human beings is infinitely more important than all the peculiarities that distinguish human beings one from another. ~Simone De Beauvoir
It has required extensive soul searching to arrive at a mental state where I can appreciate all the flowers whether they are expertly cultivated and elevated to garden status or are among the varieties denigrated as weeds.
What is a weed really?
It is an entity we cannot control. A plant with a mind of its own choosing to be itself rather than succumb to another’s oughts and shoulds. We kill the derelict dandelion when it takes up residence in manicured lawns because of our inability to see, to relish, the beauty of chaos preferring instead the illusion of control. Were the dandelion a once a decade bloomer we would make long treks to catch the explosion of yellow and tear up when as it slowly fades to delicate white loosing a feathery bouquet into the sky. But we are elitist bastards preferring to shit on the commoner.
Humanity is a bouquet of dandelions and other ‘weeds’ worth appreciating. No plant should be segregated or besmirched for being what the creator designed it to be.
