All acts of kindness are lights in the war for justice. ~Joy Harjo
If kindness is not inculcated in a person before they reach their teens, the hope for justice is little more than a wet dream staining the sheets. I was taught to be kind but rejected the teaching well into my 20s for a philosophy of objective selfishness.
Even now, when I believe in a justice predicated on kindness over punishment, there are times I am unkind, in my mind, an unkindness stepping across the border into cruelty, wickedness. It’s a mindset rationalized because it is focused on people I view as acting unkindly. Hypocrite much?
True kindness, fundamental kindness is bestowed upon all irrespective of their actions. It is an approach to life, not fairy dusted sprinkled only on those deemed worthy by my preferences. For, in the end, we are all unworthy, myself included.
