We are all on a hero’s journey. ~Joseph Campbell
Life is born of struggle and struggle we do unto the grave. From the moment we are squeezed from the narrow tunnel like a zit released that sprays onto the mirror until we struggle with our last breaths and the final trapped in our lungs. No one gets out of here alive.
To survive, not even thrive, just survive for the four score we are allotted is to undergo a hero’s journey in ultra slow motion. At breakneck speed, it is easy to show our hero side to the world when we dodge the bullet, save the baby from the burning building. At normal pace, the actions of saving a life are lost to the eye demanding quickness.
Raising children to independent adulthood is hero’s work. Contributing to the betterment of society is hero status. Surviving struggles to die a natural death. All a hero’s journey. When you look into a mirror, do you recognize the hero within?
