Being equal is not the goal. Appreciation of differences is the goal. It is the differences that make us dynamic and interesting. ~???
It’s taken me more time than I like to admit but I am finally existing in a space where I can see beyond my predisposed tendencies and appreciate diversity for diversities sake. It’s a mountain I’ve been climbing for a long, long time. I’m not sure when I reached the elevated plateau. Or if believing I reached the plateau and can see the beauty of all creation is little more than a delusion stoked to make me believe I’m more enlightened than I really am.
My underwear no longer gets knotted up when I hear people speaking a non-English language in America. I’ve come to appreciate the rhythms and am thrilled when I recognize a word or two. To guffaw at diversity is to ignore, worse, hate a flower because the colors are not just the few in the rainbow we recognized and became comfortable seeing while growing up in an isolated garden. I embrace the bouquet including those flower hues I have yet to recognize and appreciate the unique beauty in all.
Coincidentally, I set this in motion to publish precisely when I am leaving my own country and heading to India for a two week work assignment. It is a country I lived in and now consider a second home.
